About "Canon in D" by Pachelbel:

"Canon in D" is probably the most famous and popular music work that the German composer, Johann Pachelbel (1653 – 1706) from the baroque era wrote. Initially, he wrote it for a small string ensemble. Since the 1960's the arrangement of "Canon in D" for a chamber orchestra has been commonly heard and used. "Canon in D" has been very popular on several occasions such as Christmas and wedding. It is called "Canon in D" or "Canon in D Major" because he wrote it in the key of D Major. To learn more about "Canon and Gigue in D" by Pachelbel, please visit, our page, "About Canon and Gigue in D by Pachelbel."

Tips for playing Level 3 "Canon in D"

This arrangement of Level 3 "Canon in D" is for piano solo. This arrangement is written in the key of C major to accommodate Level 3 (easy) players. The key of C major is only one whole step lower than the original key, D major that Pachelbel wrote in.

This arrangement is at Level 3. However, it's higher part of Level 3. There are no fingering numbers provided. And you need to move hand positions a lot, and there are a lot of extensions, unlike Level 1 and 2 "Canon in D." The melody with the right-hand is almost the same as Level 4 "Canon in D." However, it's in the key of C that makes it a little easier. The left-hand plays mostly closed-positioned broken chords that repeats every 4 measures. That is a lot easier than Level 4 left-hand that plays octave accompaniment. Please refer to the audio sample of the whole arrangement for free on this page to get a feel for it before purchasing. After purchasing it, you can continue listing to it to check if you are playing the correct notes and rhythms.
