Hanon Exercise No. 36

from The Virtuoso Pianist - Part 2 - Free sheet

$0.00 USD

This is Hanon Exercise No. 36 from The Virtuoso Pianist, Part II by C. L. Hanon. You can pick your preferred tempo. But first, it's best to practice slowly so that you can hear if you are playing every note evenly. We also highly recommend practicing with hands separately first so that you can also hear if you are playing all the notes evenly. Make sure to lift the previous finger when you go to the next finger to maximize the strengthening exercise. If you are doing well you may practice with hands together and also increase the tempo gradually. This exercise is written only in one octave. However, you may practice 2 octaves by starting one octave lower than how it's written.

Hanon said that this Hanon Exercise No. 36 is "another example of passing the thumb under". The thumb crosses under the 2nd finger (the index finger) comfortably. And the 2nd finger crosses over the thumb which is not that comfortable because you have to cross over the interval of the 3rd. We also think this exercise is more about the thumb getting very close (right next) to the 4th finger (the ring finger) and for the players to get comfortable about it. It feels almost like crossing under. However, it does not. It just gets very close to the 4th finger. This is a great exercise to get comfortable with these 3 technical aspects and be able to execute accurately each time.

During this exercise, your thumb feels like it's always under some fingers. For the thumb to play the key clearly you may need to lift your entire hand just slightly so that the thumb is not too close to the key always. If it is it's difficult to create a clean clear sound by a thumb.

Fingering numbers are written down only in the first 3 measure of ascending section and descending section. Please use the same fingering pattern throughout.

Hanon wrote this exercise in the time signature of 2/4. We are actually using 1/4 to show players to be able to a pattern in each measure instead of 2 of the same pattern in each measure.
