About "Ave Maria" by Gounod & Bach
This "Ave Maria" was composed by French composer, Charles Gounod (1818 - 1893) from the romantic era. Gounod created a melody on top of J. S. Bach's "Prelude in C Major" from The Well-Tempered Clavier composed by J. S. Bach (1685 – 1750) from the baroque era. It is commonly performed by piano and voice. Tips for playing Level 3 "Ave Maria" by Gounod & Bach
This particular arrangement on this page is for piano solo. You'll be playing both the accompaniment part and melody line (which was originally written for the voice). It is at an easy level (level 3). Please use the damper pedal once on each measure. The fingering numbers are provided on most notes for the right-hand part. For the left-hand part, please use the fingerings 5-3-1 or 5-2-1 mostly to play the broken chords that play accompaniment part. The key for this arrangement is written in the key of C Major which is the original key of Bach's original "Prelude in C Major" although the common key that is used to sing is in the key of F Major. We arranged this level of "Ave Maria" by Gounod in 6/8 instead of 4/4 to flow better for the Level 3 arrangement which is unusual for this piece. However, you can refer to our free complete audio sample on the top of this page. Even though it is at an easy level, you'll notice it sounds quite full and flowing.
