About "Brahms' Lullaby"
Brahms' Lullaby's real title is "Guten Abend, gute Nacht" ("Good evening, good night"), Op. 49, No. 4. It is also often called "Brahms' Wiegenlied." It was written by a German composer, Johannes Brahms (1833 – 1897) from the romantic era. It was originally written for voice and piano. However, there are many arrangements for different instrumentation including orchestral version to a single music box. The melody is well-known in the world.
Tips for playing Level 5 "Brahms' Lullaby"
This arrangement is at Level 5 (advanced). And it is in the original key that Brahms wrote which is E flat major. This song is a lullaby. So, please play slowly and gently, and not loud. Please refer to our free complete (but without a repeat) audio sample on the top of this page. It may sound easy because it's slow and mellow. However, it is still at the advanced level. The left-hand stretches to different directions all the time. And the right-hand has several different intervals (3rd, 4th, and 6th) that you need to play at the same time. And there are plenty of black keys because it is in the key of E flat major. The damper (sustain) pedal signs are explicitly marked. This arrangement is slightly jazzed up harmonically. Enjoy!
