"Gymnopedies No. 1" is the 1st one of the three pieces from Gymnopedies by a French Composer, Erik Satie (1866 – 1925) from the minimalist era. The Gymnopedies is probably the most well-known work by Erik Satie. And No. 1 of it is also the most famous piece among the three.

Tips for playing Level 2 "Gymnopedies No. 1"

This particular arrangement is at Level 2 (very easy), and it's in the key of C major to accommodate Level 2 players. The original written by Satie is in the key of D major which is only one whole step higher than this arrangement. There are fingering numbers on all the notes on the music score. Please refer to the hand-position tutorial page after you download it, and locate the hand position. The hand position doesn't change at all during the piece. Please follow the damper pedal markings that are provided precisely to make the piece flow well. There are a lot of tied notes. Try your best to hold those notes as long as they are supposed to be held. This arrangement is a lot easier than the original and Level 3 arrangement. But it sounds as good as the original. Play slowly, gently, and softly throughout.
