Hanon Exercise No. 24
from The Virtuoso Pianist - Part 2 - Free sheet
This is Hanon Exercise No. 24 from The Virtuoso Pianist, Part II by C. L. Hanon. You can pick your preferred tempo. But first, it's best to practice slowly so that you can hear if you are playing every note evenly. We also highly recommend practicing with hands separately first so that you can also hear if you are playing all the notes evenly. Make sure to lift the previous finger when you go to the next finger to maximize the strengthening exercise. If you are doing well you may practice with hands together and also increase the tempo gradually. This exercise is written only in one octave. However, you may practice 2 octaves by starting one octave lower than how it's written.
Even though Hanon mentioned that this exercise is for the finger 3, 4 and 5, we think this No. 24 exercise exercises all fingers while alternating back and forth between the interval of 2nd and 3rd. Most people get confused with the 2nd and 3rd intervals if they play very fast. It's an excellent exercise while strengthening 3rd, 4th and 5th fingers. Practice slowly and try not to tense up. Relaxing and practicing slowly will help players to go through this exercise. This No. 24 exercise also has the extension of the interval of 6th, just like No. 23 in each measure.
After you get good at it you can also experiment all these exercises by playing in the different key (not only in the key of C) and also experiment with different tempos. However, always follow the suggested fingerings. Fingerings are written down only in the 1st and 2nd measure when ascending section starts and when descending section starts.
