About the music, "La Cinquantaine":
"La Cinquantaine" was composed by French composer, Jean Gabriel-Marie (1852 - 1928) from the romantic era. This composition is also known as "The Golden Wedding" or "The Golden Marriage." It means the 50th wedding anniversary. "La Cinquantaine" is the best-known work by Jean Gabriel-Marie. Commonly it's played by cello and piano. It has a gipsy-folk sound to it even though Jean Gabriel-Marie is a French composer from the romantic era.
Tips for playing Level 5 "La Cinquantaine":
This Level 5 (advanced level) "La Cinquantaine" is arranged for piano solo. And it's almost the same as how Gabriel-Marie wrote for string & piano. But you'll be playing both parts. The right-hand plays the string melody part. And the left-hand plays the piano accompaniment part. The left-hand part is quite challenging because you have to jump around quickly to play bass - chord - bass - chord. You don't need a damper (sustain) pedal for most of the time except a few sections where we provided specific pedal markings. It is in the key of A minor - A major - A minor just like the original which Gabriel-Marie wrote. Please refer to our free complete audio sample on the top of this page.
