More about this Level 2 "Piano Concerto No. 1 - The 1st Movement":
Piano Concerto No. 1 is one of the most famous piano concertos composed by a Russian composer, Pyotr Tchaikovsky (1840 - 1893). And the 1st movement is the most popular and familiar to many people among the 3 movements of No. 1. It is a very dynamic piece.
This particular arrangement is in Level 2 (very easy). And it doesn't require any hand-position change (shifting) at all for the entire piece. The players will be playing the melody line and additional notes that create harmonic support with both right and left hands. Therefore, it requires a quite lot of coordination between the 2 hands. Please take a look at the hand-position tutorial page and also pay attention to some black keys (sharps # and flats b) that occur in the music. When you see sharps and flats on the score, please go to the black keys described on the tutorial page. And when you see the natural sign, please go back to the white key of that note. The black keys are described on the hand position tutorial page as well. "Piano Concerto No. 1 - The 1st Movement" was originally written in the key of B flat minor by Tchaikovsky. But to accommodate the beginner players, this arrangement is written in the key of A minor which is just one-half step lower than the original.
